Gail Psilos is co-chair of the Annual Greek Festival. This year, 2013, marks the 40th anniversary of the popular Greek Festival in New Orleans. Although some people may not associate Greeks with New Orleans, in fact, the Greeks, who have been skilled sailors since ancient times, have been visiting New Orleans for centuries. Appropriately, the lively three-day Greek Festival is located on a body of water: Bayou St. John. Gail gives us a glimpse of what culinary treats await visitors to the Greek Festival, from baklava to roasted lamb. What would a Greek Festival be without dancing? According to Gail, "When the dancers are finished on the stage, they go outside and teach people how to dance Greek". The festival is a family affair; Gail describes a few of the many activities for the kids, including face painting and canoeing. The Annual Greek Festival runs from Friday, May 24 through Sunday, May 26, 2013. Listen to learn more.
