Jonathan Cohen is the president of the New Orleans Fencing Club (NOFC). While the public is familiar with fencers in the movies as they run and jump while engaging in exciting blade work, another type of fencing exists. Individuals who are restricted to wheelchairs or who have compromised mobility can participate in the sport of wheelchair fencing. On Wednesday, January 31, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., the NOFC and the New Orleans Fencing Foundation will co-sponsor the second annual wheelchair fencing clinic at 5212 Claiborne Avenue at the corner of Jefferson Avenue. The event is open to the public, and fencing experience is not necessary to participate. The free fencing camp welcomes all individuals 13 years and older, who are wheelchair bound or have mobility issues, to participate in this unique sport. The club will provide all equipment and apparel. Former Paralympian and World Champion, Joey Brinson, will be at the one-day camp signing autographs, giving lessons, and fencing.
