Mike
Turner

Mike Turner is president of the Japan Society of New Orleans. As MIke explains, "We are an art and cultural organization." Few people realize the long history New Orleans shares with Japan. For example, in 1922 Japan opened a consulate in New Orleans because of the large volume of rice that was passing through our port. Seven years later, in 1929, the Japan Society of New Orleans was founded. One of the Society's many offerings is the series of See, Hear, and Experience programs designed to help people become familiar with Japanese culture.
In this podcast, Mike tells us about a recent grant the organization received from the TOMODACHI Initiative.
According to Mike, the TOMODACHI Initiative includes a cultural exchange program. As part of the grant, the Japan Society will be looking for a few participants to travel to Japan to take part in this valuable cross-cultural educational initiative.
