Ricardo Pustanio is the float designer for the Krewe of Mid-City. This Mardi Gras Krewe--a traditional favorite of New Orleanians--was founded in the early 1930's and uses only tinfoil to create such intricate details as flowers and even butterflies. According to Ricardo, the foil comes in rolls that can weight up to 50 pounds and may cost as much as $1,000. per roll. Ricardo notes that in 1947, Mid-City was the first parade to feature animated floats.
