Shannon Able is president of the Junior League of New Orleans (JLNO). In 1924, ten New Orleans women decided they wanted to make a difference in the city. They founded the Junior League of New Orleans and joined the Association of Junior Leagues International. Now, 91 years later, not only does the JLNO provide direct services to community members, it also trains members to equip them with the necessary skills to form their own non-profit organizations. As Shannon notes, “We truly believe if we have been successful with our membership, that we have trained them to go out and do great things and expand the reach of the Junior League.” Currently, one of the JLNO's important initiatives is to collect 200,000 diapers by June 1, 2016 to help local New Orleans families who are unable to afford diapers.
